“And get that motivation to not give up, and not be a quitter, No matter how bad you wanna just fall flat on your face, and collapse” (Mathers). Does this sound like the words of a leader? Marshall Mathers, otherwise known as Eminem, on November 12, 1996, changed the rap world forever. Eminem, the man who George Bush once called, “the most dangerous threat to American children since polio,” is a leader nonetheless (Eminem: Unlikely Leader). Not every leader has to change the world like Oprah or Rosa Parks. Not every leader has to appeal to everyone, and some people have to have a different outlook for their point to make sense. In Determining the effects Emenem has had on today’s society, it is necessary to look at his early life, musical life, and his life now.
In March 2008 Barack Obama spoke to the nation. His purpose of the speech was to address the public about race. From the beginning of his Speech, Obama started off with a historical quote from the Gettysburg address, "We the people, in order to form a more perfect union." During his speech one of the most important elements was to convince the public, especially the white people, that they should not fear him. Obama made it well-known that he was raised by a black father and a white mother. This was a concrete word choice used to soften the fears of the audience. He wanted to make the audience comfortable with him as if he was just like them. This was brilliant because he could win over all races of people since he was biracial himself. I think that the literary device used here is Obama’s capability in including himself as the character in the speech but not to keep himself as the main character. The ultimate theme here was to include all people as a “We”, so that every citizen of the United States is inclusive and not exclusive.
“The Glass Menagerie” by Tennessee Williams is a book about a family of three, Amanda the mother and her two kids Laura and Tom who are struggling after their father suddenly left them. Which makes one wonder how far a family will go for each other? Some would lie to avoid hurting family member’s feelings, some may convince others to lie to protect another member and some might even hide the way they really feel to not disappoint them.
Homosexuality is defined as sexual attraction to a person of the same sex (Sue & Sue, 2008). Because gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) individuals are reluctant to identify themselves it is difficult to get an accurate estimates of their numbers. Sue and Sue (2008) estimate that approximately 4-10 percent of the U.S. population is homosexual.
